BJ Novak is trying really hard and he wants you to know it
I'm wary of short stories because I prefer the full blown immersion of a novel as both a meditative experience and distraction from the loud/lewd/generally obnoxious behavior occurring on the 48 bus.
Also, my opinion of B.J. Novak is warped because I read seven too many articles describing him personally as a pretentious jerk.
Also, also, I am a spineless people-pleasing wiener and my opinions are about as malleable as moist lump of play dough. (My brain is still growing!)
Bear in mind these things. Ok about the book.
I liked one out of every three stories which is pretty good because there are stories a plenty! I can't remember the exact amount. It was more than 5 and less than one hundred.
I do admire BJ's ability to speculate about "What if this happened?", but it's hard to not imagine him pulling hits from a vaporizer and asking an empty room "Dude, what if.."? Maybe he has friends there. From what I've read, he probably does not. Aw!
I feel like this is something I would attempt to write. Mine would be a lot worse, but I would be proud of it because I'd be like "Look, Brandon. Look at these ideas I had. Are you moved and inspired? And I did all of this while I was high. Amazing."
I have read too much beautiful literature in the past few weeks for this to do anything for me. So I'm going to go ahead and void my opinion entirely cause it's circumstantial. Give it a whirl you might like it. Alright see ya.
I give this book a hesitant thumbs up cause it's PRETTY ALRIGHT.
